I think everybody's goal, and especially ours, is to be the best we can be; be better than we were last year. And to accomplish everything you would want to in any sport: to win, to be competitive, have the least amount of "did not finishes" and things like that.
It is a long season and the way to keep focused -- this is hard to do, it's hard for me to do -- you have to relax somewhat. You have to make sure that every moment is not the biggest moment in your life and sometimes I think we all try to overanalyze everything and we forget what works: truth comes to our thought. You really have to try to relax because it's a very intense sport. And I think I do my best realizing that you can't get upset over one bad day or one bad year and it's easier said than done, I can tell you that.

I've always felt that life's a journey. I think you just have to keep a perspective on life: we sure did have a bad day but hey, there's always next week. And there have been times when I felt like crawling in a hole or crawling in a corner, but you have to dust yourself off and keep on going, and only yourself or your friends can help you out. And you pray a lot. Sometimes I'll just be alone by myself, just walking and I'll be praying like crazy.

In my life, being a NASCAR Winston Cup driver, that I really do want to be the best I can be. I want to win. I've been racing professionally since I've been 22 years old and now I have three beautiful girls: the youngest one is 8, the oldest one is 12. And when I go home after a bad day, unless their mother has told them it's been a bad day for their Dad, they come running to me.

They want to play ball and that really helps me with my perspective. If you don't have any children, you just have to realize what life is all about. And it's not all about: "Hey, I like you because you shoot good baskets" or "Hey, I like you because you're a winning race car driver." I think I don't want to be known as a great guy because I won stock races. I want to be known as a great guy because I'm a good dad and I'm fair and nice to everybody.
