There are two huge factors in my life. No. 1 is my relationship with Jesus Christ, you know, staying in His Word, and you know for the long grind of the season, there's so many ups and downs throughout. In fact, I don't know how guys that don't have that relationship get by. And second of all would be my family. I have two lovely girls, Cassandra and Elizabeth. Susan has just been tremendous with her support. And you know, Daddy's always number one in their eyes.
Number one, you have to be right with God and put Him in first place in your life. I know when things are going well for me professionally and at home is when I put God first, you know, family second and job at least third, so that's when things are going well in my life. Do I always stay on top of it like that? No I don't. But I'm striving to do so every day.

God calls me to be the best I can be. You know, whatever I do, to do it heartily as unto Him. And so I think that encourages and challenges me on the ice. I think you know that sometimes as an athlete you want to take the day off or maybe not go quite as hard on a drill. And as a Christian I don't believe we have that luxury cause we have someone bigger watching us than the coach. As far as family and that goes, God challenges us to be the best that we can be. You know, and I find when my priorities are right, putting God first place in my life, and then my family and all that, everything else seems to fall into place for me.

It's amazing to me when I put God first place in my life, hockey seems to really pick up a notch for me. But when hockey seems to become a little too important for me, maybe becomes my so-called God, so to speak and it starts dominating my thoughts. You know, not just at the rink, but also away from the rink, then that's when I get into trouble, so naturally daily, you have to get into His word and pray. And also having Godly men and women in my life to keep me accountable, has helped a great deal.
