| I was with my grandmother at 12 noon, getting ready to be drafted, three days before the draft, and I said 'Grandma, I'm about ready to become a millionaire and I'm empty inside.' She said, 'Ross I'm going to tell you something, if you don't have Jesus Christ in your life you're going to hell.' That kind of woke me up and I said 'how do I do that.' She told me to pray to receive Him. So I received Jesus Christ as my lord and savior that day, April 26, 1997.
Unfortunately, when we have an off day, the whole world sees it. We feel the loss, but I have eternal life so I don't give a rip. I thank the Lord that this is not eternal, that this is a temporal state we're in and (I understand) that we don't win every ball game. (When we lose, it is) a bum day for the whole team. It's times like this when the Lord brings us into the desert, and hopefully He begins to prune and purify us, and we need to search our hearts and realize that this is a time for learning.
Once the veil is lifted you begin to see how the evil one is constantly working. That opened my eyes to see how (Satan's) game plan is to take as many souls with him to Hell as possible. As I learned the truth, I had a better appreciation for this life and a better understanding of why Christ did what He did for us.
I seek the Lord when I'm on the field. I pray 'Lord I need a good pass set' or something. The Lord says 'call on me for all things and I will hear your prayer.' So I pray and it helps me relax.
I look at the Bible as basic instructions for living on earth. When you begin to seek that word and get into the meat of the Word, you begin to realize what Heaven is like, and what the real state of this world is in. So I just prepare like He's coming back every day.
