| Growing up on a farm in Cherokee, Iowa, I really appreciated the chance to play sports. Football, basketball and track got me off the farm and let me spend time with my friends. The college recruiters came around and I followed one to South Dakota State, there I was named Consensus All American two years, with All-Academic Honors for three years and Division II Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1996. In April 1995, I was drafted by the Packers. In such a short time, I had gone from a life on the farm, to a fun high school and college career, to the starting right offensive guard for the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers in 1996!
I always excelled in the classroom and on the playing field. I had always considered myself to be a good Christian and I felt I excelled in that area as well. I regularly attended church services and periodically prayed for what I needed or wanted. It wasn't until I actually made the roster for the Packers and began Bible study with teammates that I realized a personal relationship with Jesus Christ was what I lacked in life. At that time I realized I needed to work as diligently at my spiritual life as I do on the field. Proverbs 13:4 says "No matter how much a lazy person may want something, he will never get it. A hard worker will get everything he wants."
Through Bible study, nightly training tables with my wife Jana and my personal time in prayer, I am continuously growing in God's word.
Now I know that no matter what direction my career takes, my life is directed heavenward. Since I started turning to God with my decisions, He's the one who's helped me move forward to become the man I was meant to be. You can count on Him with your life, too. He's always there for you, to talk to, to trust. Will you let Him show you how good He really is?
