| Christianity has always been a big part of my life. I asked Jesus to come into my life at a young age, and He has never left me. I was never one who strayed far off the path. There were times when I drifted a little bit, but I never went into a tailspin. Jesus has always been there for me, and I have felt that more in the last 5 or 6 years than any other time.
My dad and I were never close. He was never there for me when I was growing up. He was married to my mom, but I never really felt like I had a dad. So whether it was my brother, friends or people I met, I had to keep myself surrounded by Christian men who kept me moving in the right direction.
Because of Jesus, every decision I make is made because of my relationship with Him. I've never been a person to do something because it is the popular thing to do. I do things because it is in my heart and because it is what God has for me.
I've never been the type of person to compartmentalize my life. Just because I am a Christian in the church doesn't mean I am not going to be one on the field. And just because I'm the quarterback on the field doesn't mean that I stop being one once I am off.
As a Christian, I have set myself on a spiritual platform. There are certain things that I just don't do because I don't feel they are right. I'm not going to do something just because it may seem to be the popular thing to do at the time.
While I am on a spiritual platform, I have also been put on a social platform. So when I say I am not going to do something maybe that everyone else is doing, just because I am the starting quarterback and people respect that role, they're not going to egg me on to do something I don't think is right.
