My belief in God keeps me strong even when we've lost a game or the circumstances are bad and it seems like it is the end of the world. You go home, get a good nights sleep, wake up and thank the Lord for blessing you with another day. He allows you to keep on going.

On the court, my faith in Jesus allows me to play with a clean heart. I play as hard as anybody, but I do it because of my love for Him and my love of the game. We play an emotional game, but God keeps me balanced as far as being able to play under control. I have no hatred or animosity towards the other team.

Off the court, especially here in Los Angles, God protects me from the diversions that would keep me from doing my best for Him. He put me here in order to share my faith with others. He continually reminds me that my personal NBA experience is a gift from Him.

As a young man I definitely have a long way to go as far as experience and understanding how life works. As an athlete I am professional and this is my job. But for any person, regardless of your job, God has to ultimately be your number one priority. He allows us our time and our experiences, both bad and good, to lead us to Him. For some people that may be at 18. For others it may be at 25 or 35. But ultimately, for your life to go the way it needs to go, God needs to be first.

What is your number priority? Derek Fisher says that, "for your life to go the way it needs to go, God needs to be first." To find out more about God, and how to put Him first in your life click here.
