I have a hard time understanding why I continue to struggle with the same sins over and over again.

For example, I often ask the Lord to take wrongful thoughts from me and yet I continue to have them. And, at times I am easily frustrated or struggle to maintain a proper attitude. Paul's writings in 2 Corinthians give me a better perspective on how I should deal with my own weaknesses.

"To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Corinthians 12: 7-10)

First, it is important that I face my shortcomings so I can better develop Christian character. I also need to realize that God uses my weaknesses to bring me closer to Him. The more intimate I am with God, the more I experience His wisdom and the truth of Philippians 4:13 which says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

As we face our weaknesses we affirm God''s power and learn to rely on Him to get through various struggles. God gives us strength that has nothing to do with our performance or shortcomings. His ability to raise us above our own weaknesses humbles us and allows us to worship Him.

What are your shortcomings? God can make those areas strengths in your life. To find out how you can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ click here.
