Grace Daley
Phoenix Mercury, Houston, New York, Minnesota

Guard

5-6 147

3rd Team All-American, Conference USA Player of the Year

What's in a name? How about Grace Daley.

"My teammates and friends always say, 'Grace Daley says her grace daily,'" she jokes.

Joking aside, the guard for the WNBA's Houston Comets has been saved by God's grace since her early childhood. Daley was raised in a Christian household and, unlike many others, can't provide a testimony about how accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior produced a radical, immediate change in her life.

"Someone told me that serving God your whole life is a great testimony in itself," said Daley.

Being a Christian for as long as she can remember has not shielded Daley from experiencing her share of challenges. In the midst of a basketball game, there are plenty of things that can keep you from doing what Jesus would do.

"Things can get pretty heated up out there and emotions can get the best of you," added Daley. "I know that kids, teammates and coaches are watching me so I try to be the best representative I can be. Not for myself, but for Christ."

Daley has experienced incredible success on the basketball floor. She was the Conference USA Player of the Year at Tulane University, where she remains the school's all-time leading scorer, and was named to the All-America squad. But you won't find her getting caught up in her accomplishments. She simply uses them to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

"I know that God's put me here for a reason and He's definitely given me a platform that I can use to glorify His name more," said Daley.

And for all she has done, you won't find Daley - the fourth overall pick in the 1999 WNBA Draft - savoring her past. Daley constantly thinks about all the good things God has done in her life, but she keeps her focus on the task at hand.

"I try to stay in the moment and be thankful every day," she said. "Every day is a new day with new challenges and you have to overcome them."
