| "Anyone who plays baseball understands how tough this game can be. There are so many ups and downs, it's tough to keep your perspective. What helps me a lot is that I put my trust in the Lord. Once I do that it puts baseball in perspective. The ironic thing is, once you stop dwelling on the game and put your focus on the Lord, you start playing better.
When I was early in my minor-league career I was fortunate to come in contact with John Venlet, who ran the Baseball Chapel program at Lakeland. He helped bring me to the Lord, and knowing that I have God in my life, has helped me tremendously.
Like anybody in this world, I have my struggles. But I find that these troubles can actually bring me closer to God. I have found that the difficulties that I've experienced in my career can wear me down if I let them. But once I realized that baseball wasn't the most important thing, but Christ, it helped lighten my burden. That's why Philippians 4:13 is my favorite verse.
"I can do all things in Christ which strengthened me."
It inspires me a lot through the difficulties that this game and life have to offer."
