| That opportunity never came about because I was drafted, to play pro ball, out of high school in 1989. It was a difficult decision, but by the time I was 21 I was pitching in the major leagues.
Once I made it to the major leagues, both my wife and I felt like something was missing. Here we were, having realized this huge dream and we weren't happy. In 1994 we were invited to a Bible study. While there, both of us instinctively knew that Jesus was the missing piece we had been searching for. That night we both made a decision to start living for Christ. Once, I was foolish enough to think I had made it to the major leagues because I worked hard. Now, I know I am here because God wants me here and my talent comes from Him.
So, no matter how things in my life may change, for the best or otherwise, I will always look ahead to see what God has for my family and me. Romans 8:35-39 "Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble...No, despite these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ Jesus who loves us."
No matter what I may need, God will always provide what is best for me. When I needed to learn more about the Bible and how to know Jesus, I prayed; and He brought people into my life who could show me how to develop a personal relationship with Him. Through this discipleship, studying the Bible, and prayer I am growing closer to Jesus. He is my hero. He walked this earth for 33 years and never sinned. He was perfect. On my own I can never be perfect, but with the help of Jesus each day I can try to become a little more like Him.
Are you looking for a hero? My prayer for you is that Jesus Christ will be the one you look up to and try to imitate. Romans 10:9 "For if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe with your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
