| A month before I had (arm) surgery, our first child was born. Now we have three. As a husband and father, I see myself as responsible for what happens at home. During that period, my wife (Christi) started teaching bible studies and really grew spiritually. We saw our family grow. |
|
| It taught me that there is more out there than just the game of baseball. It showed me that there are a lot more important things.
So those years, from business or athletic standpoint, may not have been very productive, but they forced me to pay attention to other areas. I gave much more attention to being the spiritual leader of the family. Spiritually, we grew leaps and bounds.
At that point I realized there might be a lot of "nice guys" that aren't in heaven when they pass away. The changes that came in my life had to do with why I was doing what I did. Before, I thought I was going to work my way into heaven. Now, I'm doing what I do because of my relationship with Christ, not in an effort to have that relationship. Now I ask, "Lord, what do you want me to do." I do it for His reasons, not mine.
I'm doing what I do to glorify the Lord.
