Fund-Raising Sales

Fundraising doesn't have to be difficult or boring. There are many ways to raise money for your club, team, or elite athletes and have fun doing it. Here is this second article in this series - Fundraising Sales....

Fundraising Sales are great because you don't need to ask people to give money to support your cause, which they may or may not believe is very important. With a sale you are asking people to buy something they need or want, and most likely, for a very good price. When your team or club needs to raise money, ask the question, "What can we sell?"

Garage Sales

If done correctly, a garage sale is a great moneymaker. Like an auction you will want to get all sale items donated. Have every athlete in your club, team or volunteer go door to door with a flyer explaining what he or she is raising money for. Have them ask their neighbors to donate a few minutes from around their house that they can sell in the garage sale allowing your athlete or club to keep the proceeds.

Your volunteers should tell their neighbors they will come back in three or four hours and will check their front porch for whatever items they were able to find. They should also ask each person they speak with to please stop by the garage sale.

The goal should be to sell everything and not be concerned about how much was made on an individual item, especially since it was all donated. You should accept almost any offer.

Breakfast Sales

Start the very first week of school and set up a breakfast concession booth near your schools main entrance. You can sell muffins, donuts, bagels, coffee and juice. After a few days you will know how much inventory to purchase for each day so you are not left with wasted inventory.

You should not wait until your season starts to begin this sale. You will want to sell all year round and you will need to set up a work schedule so as to spread the responsibility out among all your members. There are approximately 185 school days in a year. If you make only $30 profit per day that would raise $5,550.00 for your team or club over the year.

Consignment Sales

Find a retailer to let you sell their products at your events and keep a commission on the sales. This is usually done with apparel or sporting goods. Be sure you are able to return any unsold items after your event.

Bake Sales

These don't typically raise a lot of money in themselves, but they are very easy to do and work well in conjunction with lots of events. If you do a bake sale at every match, tournament, or event you host proceeds will add up to a nice piece of change. Simply have people in your club donate some baked desserts which you will sell at your event.
