| Psyching Up |
| by Coach Doug Reese, TTNL |
| When you are not feeling motivated towards an event or competition, either because you are bored by it, because there is no serious competition, or because you are tired - you may need to psych yourself up! |
The following techniques can be used to help you get Psyched Up.
- Warm up faster and harder
- Use imagery - for example, a swimmer might visualize themselves being chased by a shark!
- Use suggestions - "I can feel energy flowing into me."
- Focus on the importance of the event.
- Focus on a personal goal, such as running a race in a certain time, rather than unchallenged outcome goals such as winning (when the competition is not intense).
