| Four Fundamentals of Coaching |

|
| There are dozen of important truths and fundamentals of coaching, but here are four that even the best coaches sometimes overlook. |
|
|
|
| RULE #1
Hold your players responsible for knowing the rules and the history of their sport. A surprising number of high school and collegiate athletes are oblivious of the finer points, and the illustrious past of the sports they play.
RULE #2
In scholastic coaching, meet with the parents - and make them aware that you would appreciate their help and support in reinforcing your expectations.
RULE #3
Remember that teaching sportsmanship is as important as winning. From the beginning, emphasize coaching for character.
RULE #4
This is something dedicated coaches frequently don't like to hear, but it is true: at the end of the day, it's only a game.
